The Canopy

Summer 2026 · Issue 1
Millington, TN & the Mid-South
Sunbeams through a Mid-South forest canopy

Storm season is here. Is your big oak ready?

July and August bring the Mid-South's roughest straight-line winds, and most of the storm damage we clean up starts with a limb that showed warning signs weeks earlier. The three we see most: dead wood hanging over rooflines, V-shaped trunk unions with bark pinched between them, and mushrooms or soft soil at the base of a mature tree. Any one of those deserves a professional look before the next front rolls through — a one-hour structural prune now routinely saves a five-figure roof claim later.

☀️ Summer tip
Water mature trees deeply once a week in heat like this — a slow soak at the drip line beats daily sprinkling every time. Mulch 2–3" deep, but keep it off the trunk.
🔍 Spot the hazard
Leaves browning on one limb only? That's not drought — that's a limb telling you it's dying. Snap a photo and text it to us; we'll tell you straight whether it can wait.
🌳 Community corner
Know a Millington-area tree that deserves saving — a shade tree at a school, a veteran oak at a church? Nominate it on our site and we'll put pro bono care on our calendar.
